Hello peoples, I am really excited about the upcoming Spider-Man game that I thought I’d write about one of the unsung heroes of the long line of Spider-Man games, Web of Shadows.
When I say unsung, it’s mainly because when people discuss the greatest Spider-Man game, Web of Shadows doesn’t get a mention. So here is the review.
This game graphically was nothing to write home about. The character models were OK but the textures were bland and repeated very often. The web slinging animations aren’t that bad, but there are times your swinging from a web from the sky. Special mention to the voice acting which is caught between insanely annoying and highly entertaining.

The game has quite a few marvel character cameos including Moon Knight who is obscure enough to be cool. These cameos, along with some regulars from the Spider-Man world, do impress upon you the greater Marvel world that Spider-Man is a part of.

The game starts with Spidey and Venom mixing it up until all of a sudden a piece latches onto Spidey. Here your introduced to the black suit. The game will give you the ability to switch suits on the fly and will influence your playstyle depending upon which suit you favour. Also which suit you favour will influence which allies are available to you and the direction your story takes.

Onto playstyle, the black suit will give you the ability to fight toe to toe with anyone and can affect a large area. The classic red and blue suit is for more precision fighting with a focus on speed and agility. Personally the combat style of the red suit, with the web strike allowing you to use hit and run tactics and stay off the ground feels like the truest fighting style of Spider-Man. No other Spider-Man game let me feel like Spidey as much as this one.

The story is a symbiote enforced apocalypse on New York, with civilians becoming possessed by the symbiotes and looking to conquer the world. Not a bad story that sets the tone nicely. There’s also a few additions to New York that are true to the Marvel universe.
Hints and tips to swing into action:
- Get used to Web strikes, it’s all about the timing and is essential for aerial combat.
- It’s tempting to pour all upgrade points into your favourite suit. Hold off and put a few into the alternate suit, being versatile helps.
- Swing kick destroys electro pods quickly. Thank me later.
- Take a minute to appreciate the change of Spideys posture when you change suit. There’s a subtle differences to appreciate.
