The Return

Hello! It’s been a long time since I have written here. A really long time. My last post was July 2019, about Spiderman PS4’s DLC, The City That Never Sleeps.

What’s been happening since then? Well keeping with the theme of a gamer with sparse time to play, I started a business, started a family (I have children now, which makes me feel older than ever), and survived a pandemic with all my toilet paper intact. Strange to think that when the world ends, toilet paper may become the most valuable commodity.

How did I end up back here? Because I will be honest, I hadn’t thought of this blog in forever. Literally after my last post, I found out I was going to be a father, then I moved house for work, the pandemic, kids being born yearly, started the business. Life is busy and will continue to be, and The Duvetman, though occasionally active on the PlayStation 5, didn’t star in my thoughts, but then…

I had an email about this WordPress site, and I opened the web address, and re-read my old blog posts. I was transfixed, in the most ego-serving way, but also with nostalgia. I read the content on new games, and old games from my dusty archives (aka my brain) with relish. After finishing the backlog, I stopped and thought “When was the last time I wrote because I enjoy it? Or write about something I enjoy? Or write about something without the aim of making money?”

The sad truth is, although I love my career, I don’t get to write about it, or my hobbies that much. And it prompted me to ask myself “Do you want to write?” and I’d love to write a book. And I would love to write a gaming blog. The two great loves I’ve had since childhood (though I have grown to appreciate football these days, though mainly through the medium of Football Manager.) and I should write.

I have a couple of reasons I want to write.

  1. Writing for the sake of writing is enjoyable.
  2. The more I write, the better I’ll get
  3. If I make time to write, I’ll make it a habit.

Ok, a couple is two and there are three reasons but ‘meh’.

I’ve become a YouTube junkie, I really enjoy listening to people talk about things they love or they ar experts in. Maybe I can review their channels? I’ve recently been enjoying The Patient Wolf, a videogame story teller. The fact he has monetised that is wild to me. Video games are experienced as a story but this fella (who sounds like the late Sean Locke) puts the stories you experience into words and now he makes some sort of living from it. Phenominal.

I like some Crusader Kings 3 and Football Manager YouTubers also, Koifish and Zealand being a highlight. Also shoutout to Ottowa Welshman who made me feel special after some brief comments between us on a video.

Off topic, but I am circling back. Writing on The Duvetman. I am going to do it again. There will be no routine to it, as I want to be a present parent and provide for my family via my business.

If I have one goal, it would be to monetise this and write reviews for games, the dream being sent early access to games for me to review but that may be a little lofty of me.

With AI now more prevalent than ever, I may get more artwork from there. I don’t think I want it in my writing though. Depends on time, but it’s a lot of work to get AI to write like a human, let alone as me!

Hopefully I will have something soon. There 2 drafts I can finish, one for Final Fantasy X(10) and Far Cry 5. I think I will finish them and then do the new God of War’s.

Thank you, and hopefully you’ll hear more from me.
